We'll be honest: we ordered this notebook by mistake. Wongoji (원고지) is a special type of paper once used for two purposes in South Korea: to teach primary school hangul, the Korean alphabet, and to send book manuscripts to publishers. The rules of wongoji dictate that only one Korean character be written into each box, thus facilitating the character count for authors and publishers; each filled manuscript page would correspond to a single page of the book to be published, a concept Germans call Normseite. It is ideal not only for those learning and using Korean, but also Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese.

For any fans of K-Pop, K-Drama or indeed K-Literature (this year's Nobel Prize winner was awarded to Korean novelist Han Kang) waiting for a sign from the universe to start learning Korean, this might be it. For everyone else the unusual paper can be used for habit trackers and accounting, and it's the ideal notepad for those who write in block capitals, too.
